Paddling the Gipping Navigation 2008 & 4th May 2009

Postby Parkmanto on Mon Feb 23, 2009 4:52 pm

Having canoed down the river Stour for the last 15 yrs in support of the rights of the navigation, increasingly we have seen more restoration work completed and locks opened.

I have never yet canoed on a river with Canal boats, but hope one day to do this on the Stour and the Gipping. Not sure how we will get on together but it does seem that Canoes and small boats have to lead the way in opening rivers up.

In the absents of official approval, we decided we could wait no more to do the length of the Gipping navigation - partly because my son is growing up fast.
Last May bank holiday 2008 in glorious weather we completed the navigation with ease in one day. This has now been recorded and a guide and details on the portages complied for others to use.

We also plan to do the same on the 4th May 2009.
Further details and lots of scenic as well as practical portage photos are on the Canoeme.org web site along with our contact details:-

Hope to see you on the 4th May 2009, either paddling or in passing (pop the kettle on)
