Introducing Myself!

Postby Bendall on Sun Nov 02, 2008 4:07 pm

I was born in Ewell, Surrey, in reach of the un-navigable Hogsmill River , in the run up to the war years. Mother and I were equally at home in Diss, Norfolk, in the Waveney valley.
I liked boats, from early on, renting by the hour rowing boats, sailing boats and, in later years, powered boats in the frequent visits to the seaside and the River Thames.

When I was thirteen, and living 20m in the south of Norwich - in the school holidays, I went to Horning, on the Broads, numerous times!
I was disappointed that I was not allowed to buy a 18ft half-decker which would, I thought, sail away to see Broadland!

I was sixteen, I think(!), when I navigated the Basingstoke Canal. Accompany the "Promt Corner" the 14ft Merry Miller I was the first boat I had owned, and was the only boat that reached Greywell tunnel - The Promt Corner was held up by the swing bridge two miles before the tunnel. I even took the Merry Miller I to the other portal, seeking water. There wasn't!

Over to you,
Shall I continue?
