Aylsham Navigation (Upper Bure Navigation)

Postby Bendall on Thu Mar 26, 2009 5:03 pm

Locks - Aylsham, Burgh, Oxhead, Buxton, and Coltishall.

The Upper Bure, 1773 to the devastating flood of 26th August 1912! The Aylsham Navigation was closed thereafter!
The Lock at Buxton was completely destroyed, and one wherry was trapped in the river while unloading cargo at Aylsham.
As the locks (one lock at least) were destroyed it was unable to get back down the river and it had to be manhandled across the road near Buxton Mill!

Somebody tell me that the river was navigable up to Buxton after the flood?
