canalman, in Speakers Corner, a service from http://WWW.NORFOLKBROADS.COM

The facts of the canal are more complex than you can begin to imagine
basically the canal is owned in parts

Wayford to 100 yards short of Honing lock is owned by Alistair Patteson then the canal company owns the canal up to Swafield Bottom Lock
The canal is then formally abandoned to Antingham Pond with the Swafield Top lock to Bradfield Bridge infilled

The Canal Company is still owned by the Cubbitt family, the decendants of the canals original owner

The Directors of the company are William & Geoffrey Cubitt along with their other brother Robin and their mother and the other 100 shares are held by Laurie Ashton

The Walker family sold their shares to the Cubbitt's in 2004

The East Anglian Waterways Association are actively working on the Canal between Honing & Spa Common and hold working parties on the last Sunday of each month
